Under this program, India will send a three-member team to space for at least 7 days. If this mission is successful, India will be the fourth country in the world to send humans to space. Earlier, the working countries - America (USA), Russia (Russia) and China (China). India has already tied up with Russia and France for this ambitious project. GSLVMK-3 (Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III) launch vehicle will be used to launch Gaganyaan, which is full of the payload capability required for this mission. The Gaganyaan program is a national effort and will involve participation from industry, academia, and national agencies spread across the country. The spacecraft will be placed in a low Earth orbit of 300-400 km.

Expenditure

The entire program will cost less than Rs 10,000 crore. This includes technology development costs, aircraft hardware procurement and necessary infrastructure elements.

2. The target of performing the first manned space flight will be achieved within 40 months from the date of acceptance.
3. ISRO has completed the development of the launch vehicle GSLV MK-III. It has the necessary load capacity to launch a three-member module in an earth-centered orbit.
4. ISRO has also tested the technology-rich crew escape system which is very essential for manned space aircraft.
5. Aerodynamic characterization of the Crew Module as part of the GSLV MK-IIIX mission aircraft is ready.
